The best way to assess your home and to make it work for you, your family and visitors is to think like a visitor. By this I mean to look at your home as if you are seeing it for the first time. Is it easy to enter and move around? What if a family member is sick or injured? Can an older relative visit and open the door to the bathroom? These are some of the concerns addressed in Your Fit Home series of ebooks.
Your family goes through many changes in its lifetime. Perhaps your family of two moved into a home as young adults and then had children. Some years later your family may be middle aged, and include teenagers and an aging parent. How will your home work for you during these very different stages? Is your home visitor-friendly, no matter the age, size or ability of the visitor? These are all points to consider for a lifetime home.
Ideally, your home has a gently sloping approach and easy-to-use entrance. Once inside, rooms are on one level and easily accessed by all. The lighting works for all types of eyesight. Materials used are nonslip, easy to maintain and healthy for air quality. Also important is plenty of room to move in case assistive devices are used.
Not quite your home? Our series of ebooks will help you achieve your goal of a healthy, comfortable home for everyone.
